According to the news published by Peking University News Network on February 17, Chen Xuemei has been appointed as a chair professor at the School of Life Sciences of Peking University.

Chen Xuemei, female, born in Harbin, graduated from the Department of Biology of Peking University in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree; He graduated from Cornell University in 1995 with a Ph.D. in biochemistry. He was an assistant professor at Rodgers University and a professor at UC Riverside, and was elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) in 2013. 2006 Charles Albert Shall Award from the Botanical Society of America; In June 2011, he was elected a fellow of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) and the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, and was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).

Chen Xuemei has long been engaged in the research of microRNA and flower organ development, and was one of the first research teams to isolate microRNAs from plants. The research results in the use of microRNA to analyze the mechanism of plant development mainly include: in 2005, it was first discovered that plant microRNAs have 2′-O-methylation modification on the 3′ terminal ribosyl, which is one of the important discoveries in the field of plant developmental biology.
