Chinese mainland universities rank first in the world in 14 disciplines! The World Class Subject Rankings for Soft Subjects were released

On July 19, Soft Science officially released the 2022 “Soft Science World Class Subject Ranking”. The ranking covers 54 disciplines and covers five major fields: science, engineering, life sciences, medicine and social sciences.

The ranking targets more than 5,000 universities around the world, and more than 1,800 universities from 96 countries and regions eventually appear on the list of various disciplines.

The total number of U.S. colleges and universities on the list is dominant, and the number of Chinese mainland universities has increased significantly

U.S. universities still have an absolute advantage in the rankings of various disciplines, winning the championship in 32 disciplines, with a total of 4714 times on the list.

Chinese mainland a total of 293 universities have been listed, with a total of 2686 times on the list, ranking second in the world after the United States. Compared with last year, Chinese mainland the number of universities on the list and the total number of universities on the list increased by 7.7% and 8.7% respectively, which have increased significantly.

In the 2022 Ranking of World-class Subjects in Soft Sciences, the three universities with the highest number of subjects in the world are Harvard University (26), Stanford University (26), massachusetts institute of technology (23), and other universities with more than 10 of the world’s top ten disciplines are Tsinghua University (14), University of California, Berkeley (12), Cambridge University (12), University of Michigan Ann Arbor (12), Oxford University (11).

In the 2022 Ranking of World-class Subjects in Soft Sciences, Chinese mainland universities have added two new disciplines to rank first in the world, Tsinghua University has won the champion seat in nanoscience and technology for the first time, and Hohai University has ranked first in the world in the discipline of water resources engineering for the first time.

So far, Chinese mainland universities have become global champions in 14 disciplines, namely Tsinghua University (Communication Engineering, Energy Science and Engineering, Nanoscience and Technology), Xi’an Jiaotong University (Mechanical Engineering), Harbin Institute of Technology (Instrument Science), Tongji University (Civil Engineering), Hohai University (Water Resources Engineering), Jiangnan University (Food Science and Engineering), Beihang University (Aerospace Engineering), Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Ship and Ocean Engineering), Beijing Jiaotong University (Transportation Engineering), Wuhan University (Remote Sensing Technology), Central South University (Mining Engineering) and University of Science and Technology Beijing (Metallurgical Engineering).

Judging from the number of disciplines listed by Chinese mainland universities, Zhejiang University and Sun Yat-sen University ranked first with 48 subjects tied for Chinese mainland. Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Wuhan University, and Fudan University also have more than 40 subjects on the list.

Tsinghua University has 14 disciplines ranked among the world’s top 10 and 27 disciplines ranked among the world’s top 50 universities, and has become the university with the largest number of disciplines among the top 10 and 50 universities in Chinese mainland. Peking University has 35 disciplines ranked among the world’s top 100, which is the university with the largest number of disciplines among the top 100 universities in Chinese mainland. Zhejiang University has 7 disciplines ranked in the world’s top 10, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has 6 disciplines ranked in the world’s top 10, Harbin Institute of Technology, Southeast University, northwestern polytechnical university each 4 disciplines ranked in the world’s top 10.

The newly selected universities in the second round of “double first-class” construction performed well in the world-class discipline ranking of soft subjects. Southern University of Science and Technology has 20 disciplines on the list, of which 3 disciplines rank among the world’s top 50. South China Agricultural University has 12 disciplines on the list, and 3 disciplines rank among the world’s top 50. ShanghaiTech University and Nanjing Medical University each have 10 disciplines on the list.

Among the non-“double first-class” universities, Shenzhen University has 30 disciplines on the list, of which 12 disciplines rank among the world’s top 100, and the number of disciplines on the list leads the number of non-“double first-class” universities. Jiangsu University, Qingdao University and Guangdong University of Technology ranked second to fourth with 18, 17 and 16 times respectively, while Shandong University of Science and Technology and Zhejiang University of Technology tied for fifth place in non-“double first-class” universities with 15 times.
