New porous materials can be used for the isolation and release of albumin

Scientists have made significant progress in porous material preparation in recent years, but the controllable preparation of conductive polymers (CPs) with continuous macropores remains challenging. CPs are important for a variety of applications such as energy storage, electrocatalysis, and biosegregation.

Recently, Liu Quanyao of Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and Shaohua Liu of the School of Physics and Electronics of East China Normal University jointly used a soft template strategy to develop an unprecedented ordered double continuous mesoporous cube material (mPPy-cs), and the relevant results were published online on April 21 in the American Chemical Society’s Nano Communications.

The study found that the newly developed ordered bicontinuous mesoporous cube material has a pore size of about 45 nanometers and a high specific surface area. In addition, mPPy-cs has unique characteristics of adjustable surface charge and sensitivity to pH.

Further studies found that mPPy-cs has good albumin adsorption properties and can be used for albumin isolation. By lowering the pH, adsorbed albumin can be released in a controlled manner. (Source: China Science Daily Zheng Jinwu)
