Professor Wang Xianyou of Xiangtan University was elected as a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering


Recently, Wang Xianyou, a professor at the School of Chemistry of Xiangtan University, received an official letter from B.V. Gusev, president of the Russian Academy of Engineering, congratulating him on his election as a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering.

Wang Xianyou is a professor and doctoral supervisor of the School of Chemistry of Xiangtan University, one of the first second-level professors in Hunan Province, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), one of the top 2% scientists in the world at Stanford University, and Elsevier “Highly Cited Chinese Scholar” for 9 consecutive years. Member of China Electrochemical Society, Director of China Solid State Ion Society, Deputy Director of China Energy Storage and Power Battery Special Committee, Director of the Expert Committee of Hunan Battery Industry Association, Deputy Director of the Expert Committee of Hunan New Materials Association. Director of the National International Science and Technology Cooperation Base for New Energy Equipment and Energy Storage Materials and Devices, Director of the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Preparation Technology of Key Materials for New Energy Storage Batteries.

Professor Wang Xianyou has long been engaged in the research of electrochemical energy storage and conversion and advanced energy storage materials, and has undertaken more than 50 national, provincial and ministerial scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China Regional Innovation Key Project, as well as a number of industry-university-research achievement transformation projects, making important contributions to the development of China’s new energy industry. He has published more than 520 high-quality scientific research papers in international high-level journals, and served as the editor-in-chief of the international academic journal “Universal Journal of Carbon Research”, and the editorial board of domestic and foreign academic journals such as “Energy Materials”, “Batteries”, and “C-Journal of Carbon Research”. He has won more than 10 awards such as the first Hunan Province Advanced Science and Technology Worker, “Science Chinese Person of the Year 2016”, the second prize of Tianjin Natural Science Award, the second prize of Hunan Province Technological Invention Award, and the 12th China Patent Excellence Award.

In the nineties of last century, Professor Wang Xianyou took the lead in China to propose the compound coated with cobalt or cobalt on the surface of spherical nickel hydroxide to solve its conductivity problem, and successfully realized industrialization, which is still the mainstream direction of cathode material production of nickel-metal hydride batteries; In the late nineties of last century, the domestic lithium-ion battery developed rapidly, but lacked systematic professional book guidance, in 2000 Professor Wang Xianyou co-published China’s first lithium-ion battery book – “Lithium-ion battery”, systematically expounded the principle, design, preparation and testing technology of lithium-ion battery, and played an important role in the development of China’s lithium-ion battery industry and scientific and technological progress. In 2001, it took the lead in carrying out the research of sodium-ion batteries in China, and proposed that sodium-ion batteries have a similar electrochemical mechanism as lithium-ion batteries, but sodium resources are more abundant and have more cost advantages; In order to further improve the energy density of lithium-ion batteries, in 2003, it took the lead in China to carry out research on cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries based on metal fluoride of chemical conversion reaction, and proposed the concept that iron fluoride containing trace crystalline water is a new cathode material for lithium-ion batteries. In recent years, in view of the special position and unique electronic structure of fluorine elements in the periodic table, fluorine-ion batteries have been first studied in China and important progress has been made.

Founded in 1990, the Russian Academy of Engineering is a scientific institution with important international academic influence and a public organization in Russia, formerly known as the Soviet Academy of Engineering, and a cross-industry scientific institution jointly established by the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian Ministry of Engineering and Science, the Ministry of Defense, the Space and Space Administration and other departments. At present, there are more than 1500 academicians, including more than 200 foreign academicians.
