SSTC was approved to build the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Perception and Human-Machine Collaboration of the Ministry of Education


Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the list of the first batch of key laboratories of the Ministry of Education in the “14th Five-Year Plan”. The Key Laboratory of “Intelligent Perception and Human-Machine Collaboration” of the Ministry of Education of ShanghaiTech University was successfully approved for construction.
Relying on the School of Information Science and Technology of Shanghai University of Science and Technology, the Key Laboratory of “Intelligent Perception and Human-Machine Collaboration” aims to explore the collaborative development and mutual enhancement of the next generation of human intelligence and machine intelligence, and establish a new theoretical basis and experimental platform for the interaction and cooperation between human intelligence and machine intelligence. The laboratory focuses on computer vision, intelligent robotics and artificial intelligence theory, combines visual perception, multimodal data analysis and knowledge reasoning in multi-agent systems, and carries out cross-field and pioneering research such as virtual and augmented reality, bionic intelligence and human-computer interaction.
At present, the laboratory has achieved a series of phased results: it has built the first intelligent visual computing platform for light field big data in China, breaking through the data barriers of human-computer interaction scene reconstruction and perception; Developed intelligent vision system and three-dimensional sensing system to realize high-precision static reproduction of three-dimensional physical world; Build a large-scale multi-modal perception information collection system to build three-dimensional perception of large scenes dominated by people; A dedicated processor chip for neural radiation field rendering has been developed to improve the hardware ecology necessary for the landing application of interactive systems.

At present, the laboratory has three main research directions: perceptual modeling and knowledge acquisition of dynamic and static scenes under the integration of virtual and real reality, a new framework of responsible and sustainable machine learning theory combined with human knowledge, and the design of multi-agent human-computer interaction system in complex scenarios. In the future, the laboratory will also take the research-oriented intelligent hospital under construction at ShanghaiTech University as a platform to explore the collaborative development and mutual reinforcement technology of a new generation of machine intelligence and human intelligence, research and develop a new theoretical basis and experimental platform for the interaction and cooperation between human intelligence and machine intelligence, provide leading technologies for complex human-machine collaboration scenarios such as future intelligent hospitals and life and health applications, incubate a number of influential industrialization projects, and promote the development of China’s intelligent application industry.
The Key Laboratory of the Ministry of Education is an important part of the national science and technology innovation system, and an important base for colleges and universities to carry out organized scientific research, gather and cultivate high-quality innovative talents, and serve the national strategic needs and the needs of industry and regional development for basic research, applied basic research and cutting-edge scientific technologies. “A hundred boats compete for the current, and those who strive are first”.
