The Embassy of Ghana in China and Hunan Agricultural University have carried out agricultural science and technology innovation cooperation


Recently, He Xiuming, deputy secretary of the party group, deputy director and first-level inspector of the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department, and Dr Winfred Nii Okai Hammond, ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to China, and his party held a discussion. Subsequently, He Xiuming and Chen Hong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hunan Agricultural University, witnessed the signing of an agricultural science and technology innovation cooperation agreement between the Ghana Embassy in China and Hunan Agricultural University. Tang Wenbang, director of the Hunan Hybrid Rice Research Center, attended the forum.

In recent years, under the coordination of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation, the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Department has established close contacts with the Ghana Ministry of Food and Agriculture and the Embassy in China to actively explore how Hunan and Ghana can carry out broader and deeper pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in the field of agricultural science and technology.

He Xiuming said that in recent years, Hunan has actively practiced the national “Belt and Road” initiative, focused on enhancing the breadth and depth of foreign scientific and technological exchanges and cooperation, and established scientific and technological cooperation with more than 70 countries and regions around the world. He said that the two sides can carry out pragmatic exchanges and cooperation in the construction of germplasm resources technology libraries for grain and oil crops such as hybrid rice, corn and soybeans, intensive processing technology of agricultural products, research and development and transformation technology of agricultural machinery, and exchanges and visits of scientific researchers.

Ambassador Hammond pointed out that Hunan has always been an important partner of Ghana, and a number of Ghanaian science and technology experts have come to Hunan to learn hybrid rice technology. Ghana’s agricultural investment environment is friendly, there are many investment opportunities and potential areas of cooperation, I hope that Hunan will continue to support the development of Ghana’s agricultural science and technology in the future, and introduce more high-quality agricultural products from Ghana to Hunan.
