In July 2022, Li Simin was expelled from the party and dismissed from public office, and his suspected crimes were transferred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution according to law.
On November 2, the Laibin Municipal Intermediate People’s Court held a public hearing on the case of Li Simin, former deputy secretary of the party committee and president of Guangxi University of Science and Technology, who took bribes.
According to the WeChat public account of the “Guest Court”, the public prosecution alleges that from 2015 to 2022, the defendant Li Simin took advantage of his position as deputy secretary of the party committee and president of Guangxi University of Science and Technology to provide assistance to relevant companies and private business owners in matters such as project contracting, equipment procurement and project fund allocation, and illegally accepted a total of 15,968,633 yuan of property from the above-mentioned units and individuals, jointly or individually, of which 2.98 million yuan was attempted. After Li Simin arrived at the case, he truthfully confessed the facts of the crime, withdrew part of the stolen money, confessed and repented, and signed a plea and punishment statement. The prosecuting organ requested that Li Simin be investigated for criminal responsibility for accepting bribes.
Li Simin admitted guilt and punishment in court and sincerely repented. The verdict in the case will be pronounced at a later date.
