The two vice presidents of Sun Yat-sen University took up new positions


On February 25th, Sun Yat-sen University held the theme exhibition of “Those who cherish the greatness of the country, strive for the forefront of first-class” – Sun Yat-sen University.

According to CUHK, the opening ceremony of the exhibition was presided over by Yu Minbin, deputy secretary of the party committee of Sun Yat-sen University, and jointly opened by Chen Chunsheng, secretary of the party committee, Gao Song, president of the party committee, Diao Zhenqiang, deputy secretary of the party committee, Tai Zhongzhi, vice president, Yang Donghua, vice president, Zheng Yue, vice president, Xie Xiang, vice president, and Li Shanmin, member of the standing committee of the party committee.

This means that the two vice presidents of Sun Yat-sen University, Zheng Yue and Xie Xiang, have taken up their new positions.

Zheng Yue, born in April 1978, is from Xi’an City, Shaanxi Province. He graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in engineering. He graduated from Harbin Institute of Technology in 2007 with a doctorate degree in engineering.

From 2007 to 2009, he was engaged in postdoctoral research at the School of Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. In 2009, he served as an associate professor at the School of Physical Science and Engineering Technology, Sun Yat-sen University. In 2010, he became a professor in the School of Physical Science and Engineering Technology; In 2014, he was invited to visit the School of Engineering of Northwestern University.

Mainly engaged in the basic theory and device integration and application research of magnetoelectric-electro-optoelectronic characteristics of solid functional structures; Presided over a number of national, provincial and ministerial major and key basic and basic applications and large scientific devices and other scientific research projects; He is also a member of several committees of the Chinese Mechanics Society, the executive vice chairman of the Guangdong Physical Society, and the editorial board member of the journal “High Power Laser and Particle Beam”.

He served as the deputy dean of the School of Physics of Sun Yat-sen University in May 2016, presided over the work in March 2017, and served as the dean of the School of Physics from September 2017 to November 2020. In February 2018, he served as the deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and Technology; In March 2019, he served as the president of the Institute of Advanced Technology; In June 2020, he concurrently served as the president of the Institute of Artificial Intelligence; In March 2022, he served as the assistant to the president of Sun Yat-sen University.

Xie Xiang, born in October 1981, is from Chenghai, Guangdong. He graduated from the Department of History of Sun Yat-sen University with a bachelor’s degree, entered the Institute of History and Geography of Fudan University for a Ph.D., and received his Ph.D. in 2009 and joined the Department of History of CUHK. From 2015 to 2016, he was a visiting scholar at the MacMillan Center for International and Regional Studies at Yale University. In 2013, he was selected into the National High-level Talent Program of the Organization Department of the Central Committee, the Youth Cultural Talents of the Guangdong Special Support Program in 2014, and the National High-level Talent Program of the Ministry of Education in 2020.

His main research areas are historical geography, Ming and Qing dynasty history, and socio-economic history.

In 2004, he won the first prize of the National “Rookie in History Award” of the Ministry of Education, the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Nomination Award in 2011, the second prize of the 4th Tan Qiqiao Yugong Outstanding Youth Historical Geography Paper Award, the first prize of the Guangdong Province Philosophy and Social Sciences Outstanding Achievement Award twice in 2011 and 2017, the special prize of Guangdong Education and Teaching Achievement Award in 2019, the first “New History Young Book Award” in 2019, and the third “Puyin Humanities Academic Award”. In 2020, he won the second prize of the 8th Outstanding Achievement in Scientific Research of Colleges and Universities of the Ministry of Education, the “Rookie Award of Chinese Culture” of the 4th Global Chinese Studies Ceremony, and the 5th Simian Youth Original Award in 2022.
