Tsinghua Huang Tianyin won the Achievement Award of the World Association for Vision and Ophthalmology Research


Tsinghua News Network, April 28 On April 23, the annual meeting of the World Association for Vision and Ophthalmology Research (2023 ARVO) was held in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, and Professor Huang Tianyin, the leader of medical disciplines at Tsinghua University, won the 2023 Friedenwald Award of the World Association for Vision and Ophthalmology Research. Huang Tianyin is mainly engaged in clinical and scientific research of retinal and macular diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, myopic macular degeneration, etc. His research achievements have promoted the application of new technologies such as imaging and artificial intelligence in the screening, diagnosis and prediction of ophthalmic diseases and related systemic diseases, and made outstanding contributions to the development of ophthalmology in the world.

Founded in 1928, the World Association for Vision and Ophthalmology Research (ARVO) is the world’s largest and most recognized vision and ophthalmology research organization, with the purpose of advancing the prevention and treatment of visual system diseases worldwide. The Friedenwald Award is an award established to recognize the outstanding contributions of scientists to the ophthalmology community, and is the highest honor in the ophthalmology community worldwide.

Huang Tianyin

Huang Tianyin is a medical leader and chair professor at Tsinghua University, an academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Singapore and a foreign academician of the National Academy of Medicine. Professor Wong graduated from the National University of Singapore with a bachelor’s degree in medicine and received a presidential scholarship, and later received a doctorate degree in public health from Johns Hopkins University, and has published more than 2,200 peer-reviewed papers, been invited to more than 500 international lectures, and has an h-index of 214, and was selected into Clarivate’s global list of “highly cited scientists” in 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022, ranking first in the global ophthalmology field.
