Xi’an Jiaotong University developed the first magnesium alloy lightweight trailer in China

On April 23, 2023, Xi’an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi Automobile Holding Group Co., Ltd. held the “China’s First Magnesium Alloy Lightweight Trailer Delivery Conference” in the Western China Science and Technology Innovation Port. Xi’an Jiaotong University and Shaanxi Automobile Holding Group Co., Ltd. deeply studied and implemented the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech during his visit to Shaanxi, practiced the operation mechanism of the “scientist + engineer” joint innovation project of Shaanxi Province, and established the joint R&D center of Xi’an Jiaotong University Shaanxi Magnesium-based New Materials Engineering Research Center and Shaanxi Automobile Group Dechuang Future Automotive Technology Co., Ltd. to build an innovative consortium of sincere cooperation.
After the strong cooperation of 15 units in 6 provinces, the joint R&D center successfully developed China’s first magnesium alloy lightweight trailer after more than 500 days. The amount of magnesium alloy used in a single vehicle exceeds 800 kg, and the maximum size of a single magnesium alloy part is 13 meters, which is a comprehensive weight reduction of nearly 1 ton compared with the original steel solution, which can significantly improve the economic efficiency of road freight and is expected to cultivate a market for lightweight special vehicles of hundreds of billions of yuan.
It is reported that the Shaanxi Magnesium-based New Materials Engineering Research Center was established in 2015 and has achieved the following results so far: the discovery of the behavior of the main plastic carriers in magnesium (Science, 2019); A new metal magnesium purification mechanism based on gaseous atomic selective separation was proposed, supported by key projects of the NSFC, invented the technology of “impurity gasification, gradient condensation, adsorption filtration, and net dense crystallization”, prepared the world’s most publicly reported metal magnesium, and has the ability to provide stable supply for listed companies such as Sino, and won the 2021 Person of the Year Award of the International Magnesium Association; Invented the “gradient condensation, temperature and pressure dual control” technology, overcome the problem of low-cost large-scale production of high-quality magnesium, built the first high-quality 3N5A demonstration line in China, 3N5A was identified as the first batch of sub-products by the Department of Industry and Information Technology, won the 2022 International Magnesium Association Process Innovation Award, and the Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Department approved the establishment of the Shaanxi Province Magnesium-based New Materials Pilot Base; In cooperation with the Institute of Biology of Northwest Nonferrous Metal Institute, high-purity magnesium cardiovascular stent was successfully prepared.
