Yu Wenzhao, a professor and psychologist at East China Normal University, passed away

On February 20, the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences of East China Normal University released an obituary: Mr. Yu Wenzhao, a famous psychologist in China, a member of the Communist Party of China, an outstanding pioneer in the cause of management psychology in China, and a professor at the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences of East China Normal University, died of illness in Shanghai on February 20, 2023, at the age of 88.

Yu Wenzhao, born in Shanghai, graduated from the Department of Philosophy of Peking University in 1956 with a major in psychology, and went to the Soviet Union to study in 1961-1965, receiving a doctorate degree from Moscow University. From 1956 to 1981, he worked at the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Institute of Physiology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and served as a research assistant to Pan Shu. Since 1981, he has successively served as a lecturer, associate professor, professor, associate head and director of the Department of Applied Psychology of East China Normal University, and in 1993 he was appointed as a doctoral supervisor, enjoying the special government allowance of the State Council. He was a member of the sixth, seventh and eighth council of the Chinese Psychological Society, vice chairman of the General and Experimental Psychology Professional Committee and Industrial Psychology Professional Committee of the Chinese Psychological Society, director of the Chinese Society of Behavioral Sciences, director of the Management Psychology Special Committee of the Shanghai Social Psychology Society, and vice chairman of the Shanghai Social Psychology Society and the Shanghai Behavioral Science Society.

Yu Wenzhao has been teaching and educating people throughout his life, rigorous in learning, pioneering and innovative, truth-seeking and pragmatic, fruitful, and creatively put forward famous management theories such as “synchronous incentive theory”, “continuous belt model of incentive and de-incentive” and “fair difference threshold”, and his book “Management Psychology” is the first management psychology monograph since China’s reform and opening up. Yu Wenzhao devoted his whole life to the cause of Chinese psychology and the party’s education, cultivated a large number of outstanding talents in management psychology, and made important contributions to the development of Chinese psychology.
